It’s been over 2 weeks since Mark Zuckerberg announced the name change of Facebook Inc. to Meta Platforms, and the internet is still buzzing.
You might be thinking; what does this mean for me? And my social media accounts?
Let’s start with the basics.
To define the Greek word ‘Meta’, it can be translated to ‘beyond’ or to symbolise there is always something more to build.
And that is exactly what Mark Zuckerberg plans to do.
Put simply, this is the rebranding of Facebook Inc., the ‘parent’ company to popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
For right now, you can rest assured your social media accounts will not be changed, or moved to a new platform. The biggest change you will experience happens when you first open the apps.
Haven’t noticed it? When you enter the app on your phone, you will see a logo near the bottom of your screen which reads ‘From Meta’. This used to welcome you by saying ‘From Facebook.’
So why is this change so small? Because the company is working on something entirely different! This rebranding serves to align with the company’s ambition to create the first Metaverse.
However, be warned that the gateway to this Metaverse might very well be through the social media platforms we use on a daily basis…
But for right now, let’s discuss the elephant in the room - what is a Metaverse?
Although a Metaverse is yet to exist, it could be the next big internet evolution. Competing with the likes of Microsoft and Nvidia, Mark Zuckerberg is on track to create an extended reality - combining augmented, virtual and mixed reality.
In his own words, ‘the Metaverse will go beyond the limitations of screens, beyond the limits of physical distance and into a future where everyone can be present with each other, create new opportunities and live new experiences.’
What should you expect? Imagine a world where you could complete daily tasks such as work, exercise, or study in a virtual, three-dimensional world.

When someone first hears of you and your businesses, their immediate response is to look you up on Instagram. When they tap into your feed, that instantaneous moment of seeing your grid gives them their first impression of you as a brand.
Your grid is a powerful way to connect with your audience within seconds. If you want viewers to stick around long enough to read your captions, your images need to be engaging enough for them to tap on. If the grid isn't appealing, your viewers won't convert into followers and possible customers.
